Scots' Plans Foiled By WNE In CCC Matchup

Hosting the Golden Bears of Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action today at the Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots battled but eventually ceded a 23-7 loss to their guests, bringing them to an even 4-4 overall (3-2 CCC) on the season. The win marked the second of the year for WNE.

Allison Mead, Abigail Mansfield, and Lena Larson paced the Scots' effort with two goals apiece, while Katelyn Dyer rounded out the scoring with one goal, one assist and keepers Rebecca Resnick and Annabel Christenson split time to turn away 13 total shots.

How It Happened
  • The Golden Bears jumped out to an early 4-0 lead behind four different scorers before Gordon's Larson tallied her first of the day on an unassisted effort to halt WNE's run.
  • That halt was short-lived, however, as WNE went on to net 11 unanswered goals over the remainder of the first half before Dyer took advantage of a man-up situation with under a minute to go to make it 15-2 heading into the break.
  • True to form, the Scots came out fighting in the second frame as Mead and Mansfield stepped up to book early goals, but the Bears' offense proved too dominant on the day, utilizing a 4-0 run midway through the second to pull ahead and secure the CCC win.
  • Reilly Miller led the Bears' charge with four goals and three assists, while Ally Ferraro, Liz Mazza, and Ashley Hudson each contributed five points to the W.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Despite the loss, Dyer, Mansfield, and Larson continue to sit atop the CCC leader board in total points and goals.
  • WNE (2-1 CCC) moves to fourth in conference standings with the win, while the Scots sit just behind in fifth at 3-2.
  • The Scots will look to rebound on Wednesday, April 14 as they play host to the University of New England in league action at the Brigham Complex. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
