Scots’ Comeback Falls Short In CCC Twin-Bill

In an early morning matchup down the road with the Endicott College Gulls, Gordon College Baseball batted in both games but was handed a pair of losses, 7-6 and 14-11.

Game One
  • Endicott got on the board early, as the Gulls platted a trio of runs in the bottom of the second, one in the third, and another three in the home half of the fourth to hold a commanding 7-0 lead.
  • The fifth and sixth inning was scoreless for both sides before the Scots began to battle back in the top of the seventh.
  • A Gull fielding error allowed Gordon to erase the goose egg from the board to score their first run of the game.
  • The Scots used three consecutive walks from Connor Hartman, Shane Demers, and Patrick Tevenan with the bases loaded to score three more runs to bring the score to 7-4.
  • Andrew Hartman brought home two more to make it a one-run ball game with a single up the middle, but the Gulls were able to buckle down to escape with the 7-6 victory.

Game Two
  • Down 2-0 in the top of the second, Jaylen Coyne-Martinez hit a bases clearing triple down the right field line to go on top 3-2. However, the lead was short lived as the Gulls scored four runs on four hits an inning later to regain the lead.
  • Endicott extended their lead in the home half of the third with a five-run inning to take an 11-3 advantage, before tacking on another to make it 12-3 after four.
  • In the top of the fifth, Evan Paquette connected on a two-RBI double down the left field line to give the Scots five runs.
  • Josh Popovitch belted a solo shot to left in the visitor half of the sixth before Mike Oley scored on a passed ball to make it 12-7.
  • Continuing to chip away, the Scots used three hits to score two more runs in the top of the seventh to come within three.
  • The Gulls got on back in the bottom of the seventh, but Gordon continued to battle.
  • With two outs, Tevenan singled to right field to bring home Dalton Cody. A batter later, Paquette tripled down the right field line to score Tevenan to make it a 13-11 game.
  • The home team added an insurance run in the home half of the eighth and eventually secured the 14-11 win.
