Scots Sweep Leopards

Gordon College Baseball hosted the Wentworth Institute Leopards for a Sunday matchup at J. Tec White Field this afternoon. The Fighting Scots walked off in game one, 4-3 before defeating the Leopards, 3-1 in the night cap.

Game One
  • In the bottom of the third, Connor Hartman hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Cal Tatroe for the first run of the game.
  • The score would remain 1-0 in favor of Gordon until Wentworth's Ayrton DiPina hit an RBI double to left to knot it up at 1-1 in the top of the fifth.
  • Gordon went back on top in the home half of the inning thanks to a single from Patrick Tevenan to score Jalen Coyne-Martinez.
  • Nolan Freeman tied it up yet again as the junior hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth. The Leopards added another run in the inning thanks to three hits and a Gordon fielding error to take the 3-2 lead.
  • In their last at bats, Tevenan again hit an RBI single which evened out the score 3-3. With two outs and Shane Demers at third, Andrew Hartman singled to right field to win it 4-3 for Gordon.

Game Two
  • Demers got the Scots on the board first with a solo shot in the home half of the first.
  • It remained scoreless until Dalton Cody forced a Leopard miscue which scored Coyne-Martinez to make it 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Connor Hartman made it a 3-0 ball game with a sacrifice fly to score Cody.
  • Wentworth was able to tack on one run in the seventh but it wasn't enough as Gordon took the 3-1 W.
  • Andrew Marzetta pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out five.
