On the second day of play at the Colby Invitational today, Gordon College Volleyball battled point for point against the Colby College Mules, but the home team closed it out to defeat the Fighting Scots, 3-1. 

For the Scots, Kate Howe booked 25 assists, Jordan Shaduk had a monstrous day with 17 kills, Valerie Nilan recorded 11 kills, while Hayley Robinson had 15 digs.

How It Happened

• Colby jumped out to a 5-2 lead before Gordon capitalized on a handful of errors from the Mules along with a pair of kills to go on top, 8-5. Both sides control the ball for nearly identical runs keeping it a close match before the home team finished the match outscoring the Scots, 6-1 to take the 25-18 win.
• Gordon turned the tables on Colby as the Scots cruised to a 5-0 advantage to begin the second frame. After the Scots were up 17-12, Colby buckled down to eventually go on top, 19-18. That lead was short lived however, as the Scots quickly locked it up at 19-all. With the scoreboard reading 22-22, Gordon worked together to be the first to reach 25 as the blue and white won the second frame 25-22 to even it out at 1-1.
• After four lead changes before the score reached 15 points in the third, Colby strung three points together to go up, 19-15. Gordon came within one (18-19), but it was all Colby to finish the set to win, 25-18.
• In the driver's seat up 2-1 in the third, Colby got in rhythm to win the third to cruise to a 25-18 victory and overall 3-1 W.

Beyond The Box Score

• Jordan Shaduk recorded a career-high 17 kills.
• The Fighting Scots return to the court on Thursday, September 16 as they travel to square off against Mass. Maritime at 7 p.m.
