Hosting the MIT Engineers this evening, Gordon College Volleyball battled through three sets, but fell to the visitors by a score of 3-0. Both squad are back on the court tomorrow for the second day of the Gordon College Invitational.

How It Happened

• After the Fighting Scots got on the board first, thanks to a Jordan Shaduk kill, MIT quickly bounced back en route to an 8-1 lead. Gordon continued to chip away, forcing MIT to call a timeout to regroup after the the Scots trimmed the deficit to 19-17. However, the Engineers buckled down and closed out the first set 25-18.
• The second frame the Scots' trailed closely behind the Engineers until the Gordon's Macie Carroll laid down a kill to make it 9-9. MIT then regained their lead but the Scots continued to battle for point. After Gordon made it an 18-17 game, however, MIT went on a 7-3 run to give them the 2-0 lead.
• Gordon jumped out to a huge 6-0 lead to open up the third, with Valerie Nilan behind the service line. MIT slowly began to get back into contention and made it a 12-12 game. Despite Gordon regaining the lead (15-13), MIT finished off the sweep with a 25-19 third set victory to take the overall 3-0 win over the Scots.

• The Fighting Scots return to action tomorrow, September 4 at 1 p.m. against Bard College.
