Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Scots Split On Day Two Of Gordon Invitational

Gordon College Volleyball battled through a pair of matches on day two of the Gordon College Volleyball Invitational, winning the first match by a score of 3-1 over Bard before falling to the New England College Pilgrims, 0-3 in the night cap.

Gordon vs. Bard
  • Gordon overpowered the Raptors right from the beginning with the first point of the day with a kill from Shaduk. The Scots powerful offense was too much for the Raptors as by time Gordon collected double digits, the Raptors were only able to produce two points. The Raptors attempted to come back, but the Fighting Scots cruised through the rest of the set 25-12.
  • The Scots continued to dominate for more than half of the second set with almost 15 straight points obtained by the Scots. Bard answered back, halting the Fighting Scots at 15 for six more points. The teams then bounced back and forth every two points. Gordon stayed in the lead for the remainder of the set, taking another one 25-16.
  • Once again Gordon secured the first two points of the set with a pair of kills from Nilan and Shaduk. However, the Raptors pulled ahead 10-9 and never looked back, using their fiery offense to take the set, 25-19.
  • In the fourth set, the Fighting Scots stayed up and came into the last set determined to put the Raptors away. Gordon led the set until point 19 when Bard tried to stay alive, tying up the set once again. However, the Scots quickly shut them down by executing four straight kills to lock in the victory 3-1.
Gordon vs. NEC
  • The Pilgrims and Scots knotted up seven times by the time the score reached 19-all. The visitors' offense began to gel to finish off the first set as the Pilgrims outscored the Scots, 6-2 to take the 25-21 win.
  • NEC went on a scoring spree to open up the second frame, but the Scots came within one thanks to a Joey Keltner kill to cut the Scots' deficit to 14-13. The Scots continued to keep it close, but NEC's Amber Thi had other ideas and took over down the stretch to give the Pilgrims a 25-21 win.
  • The third set again remained close, as both sides went on short runs only for their opponent to battle back and shrink the score margin. After NEC grabbed a commanding 21-15 lead, Gordon gritted their way within one point, forcing NEC to call a timeout along the way in order to regroup. The strategy worked for NEC as the Pilgrims secured the 25-21 win and overall 3-0 victory.
