Scots Secure First CCC Victory Over Seahawks After Second Half Comeback, 2-1

Gordon College Men's Soccer concluded Gordon's 2022 Homecoming with a grand finale, hosting the Salve Regina Seahawks at the Brigham Athletic Complex for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) showdown. After a scoreless first half, the Seahawks drew first blood to open up the second, but the Fighting Scots battled back to score two goals within a seven minute span to lock in the 2-1 win.

How It Happened
  • Both squads came out firing, each recording two shots before the 16th minute. However, the Fighting Scots held their guests to just one more shot in the half while getting a total of eight shots off themselves but neither team was able to get on the board, entering the half at a 0-0 standstill.
  • Coming back from the break, the Scots and Seahawks continued to battle back and forth, until Salve was able to get on the board at the 68:15 mark when Sam Winiarski dribbled down the left side before crossing it in front of the net, allowing Kendy Prince to send a one-touch laser to the lower left corner of the net. But the Fighting Scots answered back quickly, as just over two minutes later George Coogan IV capitalized on a penalty kick in the box to tie it up, 1-1.
  • Coogan's goal sparked a fire in the Scots as Benji Wright found the back of the net in the 77th minute thanks to a beautiful feed from Coogan to give the Fighting Scots the 2-1 edge. With 12:16 remaining in regulation, Gordon denied the Seahawks of every shot attempt, sealing the eventual 2-1 narrow CCC victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • For the first time in his four-year long career, George Coogan IV booked both a goal and an assist in tonight's game.
  • The Fighting Scots hit the road on Wednesday, October 5 when they travel to Henniker, N.H. for a non-conference matchup against the New England College Pilgrims at 6 p.m.
