Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Three Scots Find The Back Of The Net In Dominant Victory Over Nor'easters

After a short break, Gordon College Men's Soccer hit their home turf at the Brigham Athletic Complex tonight for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup against the University of New England (UNE) Nor'easters where the Fighting Scots overpowered their guests, 3-1.

How It Happened
  • Just 5:39 after the first whistle blew, Gordon's Benji Dahlke drew a penalty on the edge of the box, resulting in Casey Torres finding himself 12 meters from the goal line with a penalty kick. The junior made sure to take advantage of the early opportunity, lacing the ball in the upper left corner unable to be touched by UNE's keeper to give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 edge.
  • After back and forth action in the second half, UNE was able to tie it up with 31:20 on the clock to even out the score, 1-1. But the tie did not last long as the Scots quickly retaliated thanks to freshman Nathan Starzl who recorded his first collegiate goal after tapping in the ball that was ping-ponged around in front of the net following a penalty kick from the left corner by Dahlke to regain the 2-1 advantage.
  • Not satisfied with a one-goal lead, Gordon tacked onto their score at the 78:25 mark after Benji Wright one-touched the ball to the bottom right corner thanks to a header that fell perfectly from Starzl off of a free kick to seal the 3-1 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Casey Torres scored his first goal of the season which was also his first penalty kick goal in his collegiate career.
  • Nathan Starzl booked his first career goal and assist as a Scot.
  • The Fighting Scots continue conference play this weekend when they travel to Boston to face the Wentworth Leopards at 12:30 p.m on Saturday, October 15.
