After a three game break from conference action, Gordon College Volleyball traveled to Boston to face Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rivals Wentworth Leopards where the Fighting Scots fell to their hosts in three sets, 0-3.
Annie Murphy led the Scots with 12 kills followed by
Jordan Shaduk who booked 11 in the effort.
How It HappenedÂ
- The Leopards jumped out of the gate early, grabbing a 10-5 lead before the Scots took a timeout to regroup and come within two (9-11) after a kill from Shaduk. However, Wentworth was able to hang onto their edge until Murphy tied it up at 22-all with a powerful kill but the Leopards were able to outscore the Scots three to one to close up the first set, 25-23.Â
- Macie Carroll got Gordon going in the second set with a kill to secure the first point of the set, giving the Scots their first lead of the night that they did not relinquish until a Wentworth kill evened out the score at 15. But the Fighting Scots refused to give up their advantage, booking four straight points to lengthen their lead, 19-15. After Wentworth regrouped with a timeout, they were able to chip away to knot it up at 21-21 before grabbing their first lead of the set, 23-21. The Scots attempted to regain the edge, coming within one but it wasn't enough as the Leopards brought the score to 2-0 after sealing the second set, 25-22.
- Wentworth continued to stay ahead in the third set, taking a seven-point lead (16-9) that the Scots could not recover from as the Leopards locked in the victory with a final set score of 25-20.Â
