Nilan, Schneider Lead Scots To 3-1 Victory Over Colonels

Gordon College Volleyball took the trip down Route 128 to battle the Curry College Colonels in the Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium this morning where the Fighting Scots earned their 10th victory of the season after defeating the home team, 3-1.

Valerie Nilan recorded a 12 kills, while Emily Schneider had 13 digs, 11 kills, and four aces. Additionally, Kate Howe dished out 25 assists and Wren Worth secured 13 digs.

How It Happened
  • An Annie Murphy kill (14-10) sparked a strong finish to the Scots' offense where the blue and white continued to pull away with a dominant 11-point victory (25-14) after a back and forth start to the first frame.
  • The score was knotted up more than a dozen times in the second with Curry getting the final say with a 29-27 win to even out the score at 1-1.
  • Curry went on top early, but after back-to-back kills from Murphy and  Schneider, the Scots went on a small run to take a comfortable 20-15 lead, forcing Curry to call a timeout. The Colonels got one back after the break but three straight aces from Schneider sealed the deal for Gordon as they went up two sets to one after taking the third by a score of 25-18.
  • Nilan put her team on her back to kick off the fourth, as the senior slammed down a trio of kills to take a commanding 8-3 lead. From there, Gordon never let up, holding a double-digit lead for the remainder of the frame to come away with the 25-14 victory (3-1).
Beyond The Box Score
  • Emily Schneider booked a season-high in kills (11) and digs (13).
  • Wren Worth had a career-high 13 digs in today's match.
  • The Scots return to Kanas Court on Tuesday, October 18 to host the Nichols College Bison at 7 p.m.
