Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Nor'easters Steer Clear Of Scots In CCC Shutout

Exactly a week from their last contest, Gordon College Field Hockey traveled up to Biddeford, Maine for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tilt against the University of New England (UNE) Nor'easters on Blue Bolt Field today where the home team blanked the Fighting Scots, 6-0.

How It Happened
  • Despite over a half a dozen shots from the Nor'easters in the first quarter, the Fighting Scots held the home team scoreless to keep the score at 0-0 heading into the second frame.
  • UNE used a pair of penalty corners to put a two spot on the board in the second. Gordon keeper Sophea Zaskoda held her own in the cage, making five saves on 12 shots faced  to keep the Nor'easters at an arm's length with two quarters remaining in regulation.
  • Less than a minute after the home team tacked on another to their tally (3-0), Gordon nearly got on the board (42nd minute) after Sam Dalexis took a shot after Anna Rathbun sent in a penalty corner, but the UNE keeper was able to swat it away to preserve the shutout.
  • The Nor'easters found the back of the net three times in the fourth to come out with the 6-0 victory over the blue and white.

Beyond The Box Score
  • The Scots take a break in conference play this week as they play the WPI Engineers on Thursday, October 20 on the road.
