Game Recap: Field Hockey |

First Frame Scoring Spree Narrowly Boosts Pride Over Scots, 3-2

Taking a break from Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play today, Gordon College Field hockey traveled to square off against the Springfield College Pride where both squads got off to a hot start as the score quickly locked up at 2-2 before the Pride took the 3-2 lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game, eventually edging out the Fighting Scots, 3-2.

How It Happened
  • Springfield wasted no time getting on the board as the Pride found the back of the cage just 1:34 after the first whistle blew. Gordon's Anna Rathbun quickly retaliated with a shot on goal moments before Avonlea Cummings net the Scots' first tally of the afternoon after capitalizing on a penalty corner bounced around from Rathbun to Macy Balmer before Cummings finished it off to tie it up one-all. The hosts out shot the Fighting Scots 4-1 in the next few minutes until Rathbun gave the Scots the lead at the 12:34 mark. However, 24 ticks later, the Pride knotted it back up, 2-2 with less than two minutes remaining in the first. The Scots attempted to go-ahead in the last minute with a penalty corner but Springfield turned the tables to grab the one-goal advantage in the final 20 seconds, heading into the second quarter, 3-2.
  • In the remaining three periods, Springfield was able to get 18 shots off, but the Fighting Scots' defense was too solid to be penetrated while Sophea Zaskoda booked a total of 12 saves, keeping the Pride to their first three goals. However, the Scots were unable to find the back of the cage, taking the eventual 3-2 defeat.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots wrap up their 2022 regular season on their home turf to celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, October 29 at 12 p.m. as they host the Western New England Golden Bears.
