Howe, Nilan Lift Scots Over Hawks On The Road

Gordon College Volleyball traveled to Bristol, Rhode Island for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) battle against the Hawks of Roger Williams where the Fighting Scots defeated the home team, 3-1.

Senior Valerie Nilan led the way with 19 kills, Kate Howe had a staggering 52 assists, Nikki Batson booked 19 digs, while Annie Murphy chipped in 17 kills in the victory.

How It Happened
  • The Fighting Scots controlled the tempo early, going on multiple short runs to eventually find themselves doubling up the Hawks, 20-10. To cap off the first set victory, the blue and white collected five kills from four different student-athletes to take the 25-14 win.
  • In the second frame, the score was locked up at 12-all before the home team stayed slightly ahead of Gordon and closed out the second on a 5-0 run to flip the script to escape on top, 25-15.
  • Both sides were knotted up seven times before the Scots began to pull away and four straight points at (21-15) gave the visitor's the advantage despite the Hawks climbing back within two (22-20). Nilan sealed it for her team as the senior slammed down a kill for the 25-21 victory.
  • Gordon jumped out to a 1-0 lead and never looked back, keeping the Hawks at bay throughout the remainder of the night to come away with the six point win (25-19) and overall 3-1 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • In four sets, Kate Howe had a career-best 52 assists. Her previous four-set career-high was also against Roger Williams set in 2021. Additionally, Howe was just two shy of the four-set assist record (54).
  • Valerie Nilan recorded a season-high 19 kills.
  • The Scots return home on Saturday, October 29 for a tri-match against Endicott and Plymouth State. At their 2 p.m. game against Plymouth State, the Fighting Scots will celebrate Senior Day.
