Gordon College Field Hockey made the short trip down to Salem this afternoon to take on the Vikings of Salem State University (SSU) where the Vikings were able to defeat the Fighting Scots 3-1.

How It Happened

• After a scoreless first quarter, Salem's Mackenzie Schmink chipped in a pass from teammate Mikayla Mason for the game's first goal just over five minutes into the second frame.
• Four minutes later, the home team struck again as Hannah Cochran added another to make the score 2-0 at the half. 
• Coming out of the half ready to fire, senior Anna Rathbun ripped a shot off to put the Fighting Scots on the board, cutting Salem's lead to just one goal.
• Gordon's keeper Sophea Zaskoda held strong in the cage, making four saves to close out the third to keep it a one score game heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation. 
• SSU's Schmink found the back of the net for the second time on the afternoon with seven minutes left in the fourth to secure the 3-1 victory over the blue and white.

Beyond The Box Score

• The Scots return to conference action on Saturday, October 8 as they head to face the Endicott College Gulls at 1 p.m.
• Anna Rathbun booked her fifth goal of the season today. 
• Sophea Zaskoda hit double-digit saves for the third time this season after making 10 saves this afternoon.
