Gordon College Volleyball welcomed the Lyons of Wheaton College (Mass.) this evening on Kanas Court and despite the Fighting Scots dropping the first set, the blue and white came roaring back for the 3-1 victory (25-17, 21-25, 11-25, 15-25).
Valerie Nilan led the way for the Scots with 17 kills, while
Annie Murphy chipped in 13 kills on the night. Additionally,
Kate Howe dished out 38 assists and
Nikki Batson had 14 digs.
How It Happened
- After the Scots earned the first two points in the first set, Wheaton came back strong and after taking a 6-2 lead, the Lyons held on and kept the Scots at bay eventually securing the 25-17 win.
- Wheaton had the Scots doubled up (10-5), but Gordon settled down and took their first lead of the frame (13-12) causing the Lyons to call a timeout. The score locked up six times through the remainder of the set, with the Fighting Scots held the edge to come away with the 25-21 victory.
- It was all Gordon in the third, leading by as many as 15 before going up 2-1 thanks to the scoreboard reading 25-11.
- Both sides traded points to open up the third, but the Scots capitalized on a number of Lyon attack errors as well as answering with dominating kills to complete the 3-1 comeback (25-15).

- Valerie Nilan has recorded back to back 17 kill games.
- With her 38 assists tonight, Kate Howe continued to hold strong at the top spot in the conference leader board.
- The Scots host a trimatch (Colby and WPI) on Saturday, October 8 with games at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 3 p.m.
