Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Nazareth Too Much For Scots On Day One Of Mike Daley Memorial Tournament

Gordon College Men's Basketball traveled to Rochester, New York this weekend to compete in the Mike Daley Memorial Tournament hosted by the Nazareth College Golden Flyers where the Fighting Scots kicked off the tournament against the hosts, ultimately falling by a score of 72-90.

For the Scots, Garrett Sattazahn led the way with 22 points, followed by Michael Makeij who chipped in 13, while Bryce Smith had nine points in the effort.

The hosts were led by Zach Stenglein who had 18 points, while Jonathan Park and Logan Blankenberg net 14 and 13 points, respectively.

How It Happened
  • In a tight scoring opening few minutes, Nazareth held the early edge until Justin Yu knocked one in from downtown to give Gordon a 14-12 lead six minutes into the first half. The home team quickly answered back to make it 14-all but a layup from Caleb Smith and a three-pointer from Gehrig Zimmerman put Gordon on top, 19-15 at the 10 minute mark.
  • Nazareth used a 13-1 run to flip the script once again and hold onto an eight point lead at halftime (35-27).
  • The Scots kicked off the second half on fire, outscoring the Golden Flyers 10-1 to make it a one point game just over two minutes into the second (38-37). A Sattazahn fast break layup tied it up at 43-all before Smith hit the bruise and the bucket from three-point land to put Gordon up, 47-46. However, the home team buckled down and eventually took the 18-point win over the Scots.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Second year Gehrig Zimmerman netted a career-high five points.
  • The Fighting Scots have a quick turnaround as they play Union at 1 p.m. tomorrow on day two of the Mike Daley Memorial Tournament.
