How It Happened
- The Vikings were the first team to grab the one-basket lead (4-2) but a Sattazahn three quickly gave the Scots the edge moments before Smith took advantage of a fast break to gain a five-point edge (12-7). It wasn't until the 13:42 mark when Salem flipped the script to go on a nine-point run to bring the score to 26-17 before Yu got the Fighting Scots back in the game with a three to come within one (29-30) which was followed up with a layup from Smith after a feed from Tebbs to take the slight advantage, 31-30 with 6:39 remaining in the first. However, the squads continued to trade the advantage until the Vikings hit back to back baskets to head to the locker room with a five-point lead (47-42).
- Salem kept their momentum going when they returned from the break, landing one from downtown just 41 seconds into the second half, however, Gordon's Smith immediately turned around to match the three with one of his own. But the Vikings lengthened their lead to double-digits at the 17:36 mark with a layup to bring the score to 57-47. Two minutes later, Sattazahn went off, booking back to back layups within a 27 seconds span to shrink the Scots' deficit to six. Despite the Fighting Scots' best attempt to close the gap, Salem was able to hold their lead until the clock reached 2:15 when Yu hit one from behind the arc (80-83) to kickstart the Scots' rally as Sattazahn sunk his fourth three-pointer of the night to take the late lead, 85-83 with 29 seconds to go in regulation. However, with three ticks remaining, the Vikings tied it up by the skin of their teeth after capitalizing on three opportunities from the charity stripe to force overtime (86-86).
- The Scots started off the extra five minutes hot as Yu quickly gave his squad the edge by hitting one from three-point land but the Vikings knotted it up at 89 with a three of their own which would be the closest they would come to tasting victory that night as the Fighting Scots went on to hold their lead as they eventually hit triple digit points after Tebbs stayed hot behind the arc to take a six-point lead with 21 seconds left. With 10 ticks remaining, Sattazahn brought the hammer down with a fast break layup to seal the win, 102-94.
