Scots Hold Off Seahawks For 85-83 Victory

The Fighting Scots returned to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action tonight as they traveled to Newport, Rhode Island to square off against the Salve Regina Seahawks where the Fighting Scots earned an 85-83 win over the home team to improve to 2-1 in league action and 5-4 overall.

Garrett Sattazahn netted a game-high 24 points, Michael Makiej added 14 points, Caleb Scott had 11 points while grabbing seven rebounds, and Justin Yu chipped in 10 points in the win.

For the Seahawks, Mikey Spencer had 23 points, Ryan St. Clair contributed 16, while Declan Walmsley booked 12 points.

How It Happened
  • Gordon saw nothing but net right after the opening tip to go on top, 6-0 before making seven consecutive shots within a two and a half minute span to take a monstrous 17-point advantage with 11:06 to go in the half.
  • The blue and white continued to pour it on in the high scoring frame, widening the gap to to 23 points at halftime (61-38).
  • In the second, Salve Regina bounced back, beginning the half on a 12-0 run before getting within two points of the Fighting Scots at the 9:37 mark (69-67). However, Sattazahn went on to score five straight points to regain a more comfortable 74-67 edge.
  • With three seconds remaining in regulation, Salve had the chance to potentially send it into overtime from the charity stripe, but the Seahawks were only able to go 1-2 from the line while the Scots secured the 85-83 conference win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The last time Gordon scored 60 or more points in a half was against Western New England on January 7, 2020 when they scored 63 in the second. However, this is the first time since January 3, 2019 that the Scots scored more than 60 in the first half of a game when they faced the University of New England (67).
  • The Scots have one more game before Christmas break on Thursday, December 8 at 7 p.m. as they host the Framingham State Rams on Kanas Court.
