How It Happened
- Just over three minutes in, sophomore Fernandez ripped one past the Lyons' goalie after a feed from Bui to put the Scots up, 1-0. Just over four minutes later, James Wheeler dished one out to Thies to give the Fighting Scots an early 2-0 advantage. However, the Lyons retaliated with two goals of their own to tie it up 2-all before the end of the first.
- The visitors continued their momentum, outscoring the Scots 4-0 in the second quarter to go on top, 6-2 heading into the half.
- Wheaton's Cooper kept their run alive as he started off the third quarter by lacing one to the back of the net at 13:08 (7-2). However, rookie Bui broke the Lyons' flow by rocketing his first tally of the night to cut the deficit to four. The Lyons answered right back with another goal before each side traded goals bringing the score to 9-5 in favor of the visitors heading into the final 15.
- Coming out firing from all angles, the Fighting Scots rattled off three straight goals, coming off the sticks of Bui and Fernandez within a six minute span to trail by just one goal (8-9) with 7:46 to go in regulation. However, the Lyons were able to hold onto their slim edge, eventually securing the 11-9 win over the Scots.
