Before heading south for spring break, Gordon College Men's Lacrosse hosted North Shore foe, Salem State University, for a non-conference matchup. The Fighting Scots got on the board within the first four minutes of the game and never looked back as they commanded their way to a 12-5 victory over the Vikings to give them their first win of the young season.
The Scots' offense was spearheaded by
Liam Davey,
Marco Fernandez, and
Wilton Lestage who chipped in three goals apiece, while
Noah Thies,
Kobi Bui, and
Will Fleming each found the back of the net once to add to the Scots' total. Defensively,
Colin Liscomb turned away 20 of the Vikings shots tonight to mark his second game in a row with 20 or more saves.
Sam Cioffi led the way for the Vikings with two goals and one assist, meanwhile
Dakota Girard, Patrick Guinee, and
Kevin Albert all added one goal in the effort.
How It Happened
- After exchanging shots for the first three minutes of the game, Fernandez was the first to find the back of the net, giving the Scots an early 1-0 lead. From there, Gordon was able to tack on two more goals before the quarter ran out to give them the 3-0 tilt.
- Lipscomb turned away two goals to start the second quarter before Fernandez fired another one past the Vikings' keeper for the second time of the night with 11:51 on the clock. Over the next four minutes, the Vikings cut the Scots' lead in half after goals from Albert and Cioffi before Gordon's Theis slung one in with under three minutes left to give the Scots the 5-2 advantage going into halftime.
- Throughout the third quarter, both teams traded off goals before Vikings' Girard landed a shot as the clock expired to bring the score to 7-5 and his team within two goals before the final quarter.
- The Fighting Scots' dominated the final stanza, scoring four goals in a span of eight minutes while turning away five shots on net to secure the 12-5 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
- With 1:30 to go in the first quarter, Liam Davey, recorded his first career goal as a Fighting Scot, before tacking on two more in the victory.
- Will Fleming netted his first goal on the season in the fourth quarter.
- Marco Fernandez has recorded a hat trick in both of the Scots' games this season.
