Scots Bested By Marlins In Virginia Beach

Gordon College Men's Lacrosse traveled to Virginia Beach this weekend to battle the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan (VWU) for their spring break trip. The Fighting Scots were able to put nine up on the board, however, it wasn't enough as they ultimately fell to their hosts, 9-22.

Noah Thies paced the Scots' offense this afternoon, recording four goals, while rookie Kobi Bui dished out two assists and collected four ground balls in the effort. Additionally, Colin Liscomb grabbed 13 saves for the Scots in 45 minutes of play.

For the Marlins, Tommy Faiella led his squad to victory with four goals and one assist, followed by Chris LindemeyerMark Sprague, and Nathan Sheirburn who each found the back of the net three times to add to VWU's tally. Meanwhile, Josh Van Zuylen was solid in goal for the Marlins, booking seven saves while allowing seven goals.

How It Happened
  • The Marlins made sure to get ahead early as they scored three quick goals within the first five minutes of action. However, it wasn't long before Thies broke their streak when he found the back of the net to secure the Scots' first goal. For the remainder of the first, VWU outscored the Fighting Scots 2-1 to head into the second frame, 5-2.
  • The Scots started off the next 15 with a Bui goal to come within two, however, the Marlins shots got hotter, scoring six more times while holding Gordon to one  more before ending the half up, 11-4.
  • Coming back from break, VWU was able to tack onto their advantage, while Bui and Thies both added to the Scots' tally. However, the Marlins held on tight to hold a 16-7 lead heading into the final frame..
  • In the fourth, the Marlins once again came out shooting, scoring another one just 12 seconds after the whistle. Thies and Joel Bean were each able to rip one past the Marlins' goalie to bring the score to 9-19 with 7:10 remaining in regulation, however it wasn't enough as VWU continued to add to their lead and take the eventual 22-9 win.
