Continuing their month-long streak of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action, Gordon College Men's Basketball traveled to Milton, Massachusetts this evening to battle the Colonels of Curry College. In the duel, the Fighting Scots gained an early lead and never looked back, eventually topping their hosts, 92-77.
Garrett Sattazahn was a force to be reckoned with for the Scots as he sunk 24 points in the matchup. Meanwhile,
Parker Omslaer chipped in 19 points and booked eight rebounds. Next was
Bryce Smith who added 14 points towards the win.Â
Curry was led by
Angelo Sardegna who recorded a game-high 27 points, followed by
Lowelle Torres who was just behind him with 25 as well as grabbing ten boards.Â
How It Happened
- The Colonels got on the board first with back to back buckets by Sardegna, however, Gordon answered back with a pair of layups from the leading duo of Omslaer and Sattazahn to even out the score, 4-4. After a few minutes of back and forth action, the Fighting Scots earned their first sizable lead thanks to another layup from Omslaer to go up 11-6. Curry attempted to hang with the Scots, however, a three from Justin Yu silenced the Colonels as Gordon held onto their advantage (17-12).
- Continuing to rattle off shots, the Fighting Scots eventually went up by 12 with 5:30 left in the half after Sattazahn hit another from downtown (33-21). The Colonels continued to put up a fight, but the Scots grasped tightly to their lead, ending the half 47-36.Â
- Omslaer started the Fighting Scots off again with two baskets to extend their lead to 13 (51-38) just before Curry rallied for 13 straight points to tie it up 51-all at the 15:31 mark. However, the Colonels were unable to break through as the Scots quickly regained control thanks to a layup from David Massillon to get Gordon rolling again (55-53).
- From that moment on, the Fighting Scots continued to tack onto their lead until Curry was able to shrink their deficit to four with 8:11 on the clock (71-67). Moments later, Michael Makiej hit a pair of jumpers to reclaim a more comfortable lead (75-67). The Scots continued to dominate the court, ultimately taking the eventual 15-point win, 92-77.Â
