Gordon College Women's Lacrosse opened up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play this afternoon traveling to Bristol, Rhode Island to take on the Hawks of Roger Williams University. The Hawks offense was able to overpower the Fighting Scots to take the 23-2 CCC victory.
For the Scots,
Abigail Mansfield and
Kaitlyn Mini each scored one goal apiece. Defensively,
Janelle Maxwell made saved 14 shots in the effort.
The Hawks offense was spearheaded by
Mandy Beck and
Ryleigh Cavanaugh who each found the back of the net five times. Additionally,
Lily Cunningham and
Devon Sarazin each had three goals and two assists in the commanding win.
How It Happened
- The Fighting Scots got on the board first after Mansfield was able to find the back of the net off a pass from teammate, Mikayla Lecci, to give her team the 1-0 tilt after two minutes of play.
- The Hawks wasted no time answering back when a minute later, Karli Chapin, scored to even the score at 1-all. From there the Hawks went on an 8-0 scoring run to finish the first period with a 9-1 advantage.
- The Hawks started the second quarter off right where they left off by scoring six unanswered goals to extend their lead to 15-1 going into halftime.
- After the Hawks added three goals to their tally, Mini was able to get the Fighting Scots back on the board to bring the total to 18-2 in favor of the Hawks going into the final frame.
- The Hawks were able to tack on five more goals before taking the eventual 23-2 win over the Scots.
Beyond The Box Score
- The Scots continue their road stint on Wednesday, March 30 as they travel to Dudley, Mass. to face CCC foe, the Bison of Nichols College, at 4 p.m.
- Janelle Maxwell recorded a career-high in saves this afternoon with 14.
- Kaitlyn Mini and Abigail Mansfield have scored in all six games for the Scots this season bringing their goal totals to 20 and 19, respectively, on the young season.
