Seahawks Sweep Scots In CCC Opener

Playing on their home diamond for the first time in 2022, Gordon College Baseball welcomed the Seahawks of Salve Regina to J. Tec White Field for opening day of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action. The Seahawks swept the Fighting Scots, 10-0 in game one and 14-1 in the second contest.

Game One
  • Both pitchers were able to keep the hitters from reaching third base for the first two innings before Salve's Matt D'Amato hit a double and eventually came around to score on a ground out to take the early 1-0 edge.
  • The Seahawks continued to tack on the runs, scoring a pair in the sixth before a five-run outburst in the eighth to secure the eventual 10-0 win over the Scots.
  • Gordon's starting right-hander Hunter Routhier only surrendered two earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
Game Two
  • The Seahawks' bats stayed hot heading into the second nine-inning affair, as the visitors sent out a trio of home runs to take a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth. The Fighting Scots were able to get one on the board after Tucker Destino bunted home CJ Demers in the home half of the fifth to make it a 5-1 ball game.
  • However, Salve continued to roll, scoring in the following three innings to take the 14-1 victory in eight innings.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots head to Framingham, Mass. on Tuesday, March 29 to take on the Rams of Framingham State College at 3 p.m.
