Lions Escape Scots’ Ninth Inning Rally

Gordon College Baseball hit their home field this afternoon for a non-conference matchup against the Emerson College Lions where the Fighting Scots battled until the last out but were narrowly edged by their visitors, 8-7.

How It Happened
  • After shutting out the Lions the first two innings, the Scots broke it open in the home half of the second thanks to a sacrifice fly from rookie Jonathan McIntyre to score classmate CJ Demers for the Fighting Scots' first run. After a walk, Patrick Tevenan stepped up to the plate to whack a liner to center and drive in two run, bringing the score to 3-0.
  • However, in the third Emerson flipped the script to go on top 7-3 after an elongated inning. The Lions were able to add onto their lead one more time before the Fighting Scots crossed the plate again in the sixth when Josh Popovitch launched a solo shot over the left field fence (8-4).
  • The next inning, the Scots cut the deficit to three after Evan Paquette sacrifice flied out to center, scoring C. Demers to give Gordon their fifth run of the game (8-5). The Fighting Scots attempted to spark another rally in their last at bats when the hot bat of Paquette doubled down the left field line to bring the Scots within two with runners in scoring position and only one down. After an Emerson pitching change, Dalton Cody took advantage of a wild pitch to cross the plate make it a one-run ball game. However, the Lions were able to escape the rally and take the one-run win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Evan Paquette recorded his first multi-hit and RBI game of the season
  • The Fighting Scots return to conference play this Saturday, April 2 when they travel into Boston to face the Leopards of Wentworth for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
