Game Recap: Baseball |

Scots Walk It Off To Split Twinbill With Lions

Hitting the diamond for the third straight day, Gordon College Baseball faced the Mount St. Joseph (MSJ) Lions for a doubleheader at Lake Myrtle this evening. After dropping the first game 10-2, the Fighting Scots rallied once again in the second contest for a thrilling 8-7 walk-off victory.

Game One
  • MSJ threw together a two-out rally in the home half of the first, hitting a trio of singles as well as a 3 RBI homer to go on top, 5-0.
  • In the top of the third, Jacob Blake led off the inning with a single to center and later came around to score after Shane Demers singled through the right side to cut the Lions' lead to four runs (5-1).
  • Both sides tacked on another run to maintain a four-run margin before MSJ scored three in the bottom of the fourth widening the gap to 9-2. The Lions went on to cross the plate for the final time in the home half of the sixth to come away with the 10-2 win.
Game Two
  • MSJ picked up right where they left off as the Lions put a quick three spot up on the board in the top of the first before tacking on another in the following inning to take a comfortable 4-0 advantage.
  • The Scots got one back in the bottom of the second thanks to a Tucker Destino sacrifice fly that brought Andrew Hartman home. After keeping their opponents off the board in the top of the third, Gordon platted three runs to knot it up at 4-4.
  • S. Demers gave the blue and white their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth after belting his first dinger of the young season (5-4).
  • However, that lead was short lived as MSJ came back firing, scoring three more runs to go on top, 7-5.
  • With their last at bats, Gordon's Jonathan McIntyre kicked the bottom of the seventh off with a single, followed by a S. Demers walk. Then, Patrick Tevenan moved both his teammates into scoring position with one out. CJ Demers followed that up with a clutch double down the right field line to tie the game up at 7-all.
  • Without skipping a beat, Hartman stepped up to the plate and singled to center field, bringing home C. Demers to walk it off, 8-7.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Jacob Hitchcock pitched up his first collegiate win on the rubber.
  • The Fighting Scots enjoy an off day tomorrow before returning to the field on Tuesday, March 8 for a twin bill against Crown.
