Game Recap: Baseball |

Scots Split With Crown

After an off day yesterday, Gordon College Baseball returned to the diamond for a double header against Crown College. The Fighting Scots fell in the first contest, 11-1 before winning the second game, 7-4.

Game One
  • Crown got on the board first after launching two homers in the inning to get ahead early, 3-0. In the home half of the third, Jonathan McIntyre came around to score thanks to a wild pitch to cut the deficit to two. Right-hander, Andrew Marzetta kept Crown off the board for three consecutive innings before Mason Brock hit one over in the visitor's half of the fifth (4-1).
  • In the sixth inning, Crown was able to put up six on the board before tacking on one more run in the seventh to secure the 11-1 win over the Fighting Scots.
Game Two
  • Gordon continued the trend of the visitors scoring first, as CJ Demers singled up the middle to bring home McIntyre to put the Scots up 1-0. However, Crown locked it up at one in the bottom of the second after a sacrifice bunt to bring home Brock. With two outs, Crown pulled off a triple steal to score another run and take the narrow 2-1 edge in the bottom of the third.
  • After a scoreless fourth, Gordon strung together four hits to plate four runs and regain the lead, 5-2. Adding to their advantage in the top of the sixth, Patrick Tevanan singled through the right side to bring home Shane Demers and Gabe Coyne-Martinez to widen the gap to five runs. Attempting to make a comeback, Crown tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth but the Scots held down the fort to take the 7-4 victory.
