First Ranked Gulls Take Down Scots

Gordon College Baseball welcomed cross-town rival Endicott College to J. Tech White Field this afternoon for a nine-inning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest where the Gulls and Fighting Scots went run for run in the first three innings before Endicott gained control for the 24-5 win over the Fighting Scots.

How It Happened
  • Jake Nardone got it started for the Gulls as the junior singled down the right field line to bring home two teammates and go on top, 2-0 heading into the bottom of the first.
  • With two down and CJ Demers on first, senior Patrick Tevenan got a hold of one from Gulls' starting pitcher John Connolly and belted it over the left field fence to lock it back up at 2-2.
  • The Scots took their first lead of the afternoon thanks to a Shane Demers RBI groundout, allowing Ben Chase to cross the plate (3-2) in the home half of the second.
  • Endicott knotted it up at 3-all again thanks to Nardone whose double scored teammate Caleb Shpur in the top of the third. The visitors cracked it open in their next at bats, scoring eight runs on four hits to widen the gap to 11-3 and eventually 15-3 after adding on another in the fifth.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, freshman Robert Dunkle lifted a two-run shot over the left field fence to cut the deficit to 10 after six innings.
  • The Gulls tacked on six runs in the seventh and three in the eighth but were shut down in the ninth after relief pitcher Tevenan sat down the Gulls in order by way of the K.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Patrick Tevenan hit his first collegiate home run and in his first appearance on the mound, recorded three strikeouts in one inning of work.
  • Robert Dunkle booked his first homer on J. Tech White Field and second of his rookie campaign.
  • The Scots return to the diamond tomorrow, as they travel to Bridgewater, Mass. to face the Bridgewater State Bears at 3 p.m.
