After a pair on non-conference matches, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse returned to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play this evening when they invited the Nor'easters of the University of New England (UNE) to their home turf where the Fighting Scots ultimately fell to their guests, 18-4.
For the Scots,
Kaitlyn Mini led Gordon with two goals, followed by
Abigail Mansfield and
Hailey Beling who each added a goal in the effort.
The visitors were paced by
Barrie Guertin who found the back of the net four times, followed by
Paige DeVries who recorded three goals, meanwhile,
Kelsey Hartigan dished out five assists.
How It Happened
- Both squads started off solid on defense, keeping the game scoreless until 9:02 when UNE got on the board with a goal from Guertin. Shortly after, the Nor'easters added another to their edge to go up 2-0 before Gordon's Mini fired one past UNE's keeper to come within one. Just 23 seconds later, the visitors found that back of the net for the third time to end the first, 3-1.
- UNE continued their scoring streak as they lengthened their lead 28 seconds into the second frame before tacking on another just 23 ticks later (5-1). The Nor'easters continued to fire in the remainder of the half, outscoring the Scots 4-1 to head into the third frame, 9-2.
- The Nor'easters booked seven straight goals before Mini finally broke the spree with 6:13 remaining in regulation to bring the score to 3-16. Beling chipped in another goal at the 4:50 mark but UNE's offensive power could not be tamed as they took the eventual 18-4 win over the Scots.
Beyond The Box Score
- The Fighting Scots are back in action on Tuesday, April 19 when they travel to Boston for a CCC matchup against the Wentworth Leopards at 4 p.m.
