Leopards Defend The Den After Second Quarter Push

Gordon College Women's Lacrosse continued conference play this afternoon when they traveled into Boston to square up against the Wentworth Leopards. The Fighting Scots grabbed an early lead in the first, however the Leopards battled back in the second to lock in the 17-12 win.

Hailey Beling led the Scots this afternoon with five goals and one assist, while Abigail Mansfield was right behind her, chipping in four goals as well as dishing out three assists in the effort.

The Leopards were paced by Emily Rogers and Olivia Murray who found the back of the net six times each, followed by Sarah Galan who added three goals to their tally.

How It Happened
  • Three different Scots scored in the first 3:05 of action to earn an early 3-0 edge. The Leopards were able to break up Gordon's scoring spree with a goal of their own, however the offensive power of the Fighting Scots could not be tamed as Mansfield booked her second goal of the night to hold the three-goal edge for the Scots (4-1). Both squads traded a pair of goals in the remaining minutes to head into the second frame, 6-3.
  • However, Wentworth opened up the second with three quick goals to even out the score, 6-6 at the 11:42 mark. Although, Mansfield retaliated just 40 seconds later to regain the narrow advantage for hte Scots, before the Leopards were able to tie it up at seven-all eventually taking a two-goal lead at the end of the half, 10-8.
  • In the third, Gordon's Kaitlyn Mini capitalized on a free position shot to make it a one-goal game (9-10) but Wentworth tacked onto their edge to head into the final quarter, 13-10.
  • Abbie Zorrilla put a stop to the Leopards' momentum after lacing one past Wentworth's keeper to bring the score to 11-14 with 8:27 remaining in regulation. However, the Leopards sticks stayed hot as they went on to outscore the Fighting Scots 3-1 to take the eventual 17-12 victory.
