Anna Maria Stymies Gordon's Ninth Inning Comeback

In a non-league meeting against the Anna Maria College AMCATS at the Northborough Baseball Complex, Gordon College Baseball took the initial lead in the first inning before the AMCATS came back to win, 13-8 despite a late ninth inning rally by the Fighting Scots.

How It Happed
  • After Jonathan McIntyre and Robert Dunkle earned their way on by way of a hit by pitch, CJ Demers stepped up to the plate to blast a three-run shot over the left field fence to put Gordon on top early, 3-0.
  • The home team answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with three runs including a two-run blast to lock it up at 3-3.
  • Anna Maria broke up the next two scoreless innings with a three-run fourth inning thanks to back-to-back doubles and another homer to take the 6-3 lead. The Scots got one back in the top of the fifth after Dalton Cody roped a single to center field to score teammate Patrick Tevenan (6-4).
  • The AMCATS widened the gap after scoring two runs in the sixth before plating five in the seventh (13-4) heading into the Scots' last at bats.
  • With one down, Anna Maria put on three consecutive Scots after a walk to Tevenan and two hit by pitches to Ben House and Alex Carl to load the bases for Ben Chase who eventually earned the walk to bring home the Scots' fifth run of the day. The AMCATS were able to get one more out, but Andrew Hartman came in and walked another run home before David Melendez singled to right to bring Chase and Carl around the bases and cut it to a five-run game. However, the AMCATS were able to escape one batter later to secure the 13-8 win over the Scots.
Beyond The Box Score

  • The Fighting Scots return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday, April 23 as they travel to Dudley, Mass. for a doubleheader against Nichols College with first pitch slated for 11:30 a.m.
