Nichols Takes Two From Scots In CCC Action

As one of three teams today traveling to Nichols College for Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) battles, Gordon College Baseball squared off against the Bison where the Fighting Scots fell to their hosts, 13-7 and 16-1.

Game One
  • With one down, Shane Demers belted a doubled to left field to spark the Scots' offense from the start. After a walk and a hit by pitch, the bases were loaded for CJ Demers who hit one back up the middle to score his brother C. Demers to put Gordon on top, 1-0. The next two batters up, Dalton Cody and Andrew Hartman each came through with an RBI single up the middle making the score 3-0. Ben Chase wrapped up the runs for the blue and white with a fielder's choice to plate the fourth run of the inning.
  • The Bison wasted no time, as the home team used three hits to score three runs and cut the deficit to one until the Scots tacked on another run in the top of the second to give themselves a two-run edge. But Nichols would eventually tie it up after chipping away with one run in the fourth and the sixth (5-5).
  • In the seventh, Gordon broke the tie up thanks to a handful of walks and smart base running to go back on top, 7-5.
  • Not going away easy, Nichols came alive in the eighth to score eight runs off of five hits to capture their first advantage of the afternoon, securing the eventually 13-7 win.
Game Two
  • Nichols fed off the hot bats from game one heading into game two, quickly scoring two runs in the second to take the early 2-0 lead.
  • Gordon came back in the top of the second thanks to a lead-off single from Jalen Coyne-Martinez who eventually came around to score after a S. Demers single to center field to cut the score in half.
  • The Bison scored twice in the bottom of the inning before scoring 11 in the fourth en route to a 16-1 win over the Scots.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Jalen Coyne-Martinez matched his season-high two hits in game two.
  • Three different Scots matched their season-high with three hits in game one (Jonathan McIntyre, Dalton Cody, and Andrew Hartman).
  • The Fighting Scots return to the diamond as they head into Boston to take on the Suffolk Rams on Tuesday, April 26 for a nine-inning game.
