Rams' Fifth Inning Rally Too Much For Scots

Gordon College Baseball traveled into Boston this afternoon to square up against the Suffolk University Rams for their first conference bout of the week. In the nine-inning matchup, the Fighting Scots came back twice in the second and third inning to grab a lead before the Rams broke through in the fifth to secure the 14-8 win.

How It Happened
  • Suffolk got on the board early, taking a 3-0 lead after the first inning before Gordon's Dalton Cody took charge in the second, smashing a homer over the right field fence to cut the Scots' deficit to one (2-3). With two down, Shane Demers launched a double in the left center gap to grab the go ahead run and head into the bottom of the second, 4-3. However, the Rams retaliated with two runs of their own in their next ups to regain the narrow 5-4 edge over the Scots.
  • In the third, Andrew Hartman roped a laser through the right side to score Cody and knot it up at five. The Scots kept the two out home runs coming as Josh Popovitch crushed one out of the park to put his team up, 7-5. Suffolk immediately answered back by tying it up 7-7 in the home half of the third before exploding in the fifth inning with five runs before adding another two to their lead in the sixth.
  • After almost three innings of scoreless action, Hartman added an RBI to his stat sheet after a hard hit single to the pitcher, scoring S. Demers and Gordon's final run before the Rams took the eventual 14-8 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Shane Demers has hit at least one extra base hit in the Scots last three conference games.
  • The Fighting Scots continue conference action on Saturday, April 30 when they celebrate their 10 seniors for their final home doubleheader against Curry College with the first pitch set for noon.
