Bats Come Alive In CCC Senior Day Sweep Over Colonels

Gordon College Baseball celebrated Senior Day in style with a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) sweep over the Curry College Colonels on J. Tec White Field today. In game one, the Fighting Scots defeated the visitors, 8-6 before making a statement in game two with a 10-0 win (seven innings) to cap off the sweep.

Game One
  • The Colonels drew first blood, sparked by duo of doubles in the top of the second to get on the board, 4-0. In the bottom of the third, John McIntyre, Shane Demers, and Patrick Tevenan hit back to back to back singles to give Gordon their first run. Then, with two on, Dalton Cody stepped up to the plate and hit a three-run blast over the right field fence to knot it up at 4-4.
  • An inning later, S. Demers doubled up the score as the junior belted a grand slam to right to give Gordon their first lead of the day, 8-4.
  • The Scots went into the top of the ninth with the 9-6 lead and with two outs and the bases loaded, starting pitcher Hunter Routhier came in clutch collected his seventh strikeout of the day to cap off the victory.
Game Two
  • Three ducks were on the pond for Andrew Hartman in the home half of the second and the sophomore hit a single on the right side to score Robert Dunkle and put Gordon up, 1-0. Two batters later, Evan Paquette hit a bloop single to right field to add another run to their tally (2-0). McIntrye hit a sacrifice fly to right to score the Scots' third and final run of the inning.
  • Continuing to stay hot, Cody knocked his second homerun out of the park to lead off the home half of the fourth (4-0). After Paquette made it 5-0 with an RBI double, Curry was forced to make a pitching change. However, it didn't matter to the home team as S. Demers hit one deep to center field for a three RBI double to widen the gap to 8-0 before a Dunkle single to make it nine-run game.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Cody hit a triple to left center putting him 90 feet away from ending the game early. CJ Demers answered the call as the rookie hit one back up the middle to make it a 10-0 game to finish it in seven innings.
