Scots Edged By No. 16/22 Endicott On The Road

Gordon College Baseball traveled down the road to cross-town rival Endicott College this afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) nine-inning battle against the Gulls on North Field. The Fighting Scots put up a good fight against the ranked Gulls but fell by a score of 4-3.

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless first inning, Gordon got things started as rookie Robert Dunkle lifted a solo shot over the left field fence to start the inning with a 1-0 lead. Gordon continued to see the ball well and after the fourth single of the frame, the Scots tacked on another run after John McIntyre's single plated CJ Demers (2-0) to force a Gull pitching change.
  • The home team answered back in the home half of the inning, using three hits to score a pair of runs and knot it up at 2-2.
  • Both sides traded hitless innings from the rubber in the third and fourth until each team once again put up identical scores in the fifth to lock up the score at 3-3.
  • Heading into the bottom of the ninth still tied at 3-all, Endicott connected on a pair of doubles to bring home the winning run and secure the slim one-run victory over the Fighting Scots (4-3).
Beyond The Box Score
  • After scoring eight plus runs in the past four games, this is the first time since April 25 that the Gulls were held to only four runs (No. 23 Tufts on April 25).
  • Freshman Zack Fay went a career-high 7.2 innings this afternoon.
  • Gordon returns to action for a home CCC double header vs. Roger Williams on Saturday, May 7 beginning at 12 p.m.
