Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Scots Sail Past Pilgrims, 10-5

Gordon College Women's Lacrosse took a break from conference action this afternoon when they traveled to Henniker, New Hampshire to battle the New England College (NEC) Pilgrims where the Fighting Scots defeated their hosts, 10-5.

The Scots were paced by Abigail Mansfield who found the back of the neck five times while collecting seven ground balls, followed by Kaitlyn Mini who added three goals in the effort and Alexis LaPia who contributed two goals.

For the Pilgrims, Tailor Chapin led her squad with three goals, meanwhile, Nathalie Antigua and Jackie Nee each chipped in a goal.

How It Happened
  • Gordon's Mansfield got the Scots on the board early in the first as she laced one past the Pilgrims' keeper at the 12:06 mark to give Gordon a one-goal edge. Despite both squads getting multiple shots in in the remaining minutes of the first, neither team was able to get one past until the second frame when LaPia scored the second goal for the Fighting Scots just over a minute after Gordon won the draw (2-0). NEC retaliated with a goal after taking advantage of a free position shot to make it 1-2, however, the Scots scored back to back to take a three-point lead with 9:18 to go. Each team was able to get a goal in before Mini scored her second goal of the night with 14 seconds left in the half to head into the third, 6-2.
  • After almost five minutes of scoreless action, Mansfield tacked on another to her stat sheet to lengthen the Fighting Scots' lead to five (7-2). The Pilgrims attempted to keep up, scoring their third goal of the evening when the clock hit 9:11. But the Scots kept firing, adding one more to their tally before heading into the final quarter, 8-3.
  • For the third time today, Mansfield scored the first goal of the quarter, this time just 49 seconds in to bring the score to 9-3. Although the Pilgrims were able to get two goals in a row to shrink the deficit to four, Mini brought the hammer down with another last second goal with 13 ticks remaining in regulation to lock in the 10-5 victory.
