Scots Torch Blazers In Tuesday Night Sweep

Gordon College Volleyball hosted the Elms College Blazers tonight on Kanas Court where the Fighting Scots overpowered their opponents in three straight sets, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-18). Annie Murphy led the Scots with 11 kills in tonight's victory, followed by Jordan Shaduk (7) and Valerie Nilan (6).

How It Happened
  • Macie Carroll got the Scots rolling right from the get-go after a powerful kill that catalyzed a three point-run before the Blazers could get on the board. Shortly after, Elms was able to grab the lead (5-3) but the Fighting Scots immediately jumped back in the driver's seat, taking the 10-7 lead after a kill from Murphy. From that moment on the Scots never looked back, locking in the first set, 25-17.
  • The Fighting Scots continued their momentum into the second set, earning the first two points thanks to a Blazer miscue followed by an ace from Wren Worth. However, Elms grabbed another short-lived lead (7-4) until Gordon  tied it up at nine before regaining their edge, 11-9 after Nilan smashed one down. The squads battled point-for-point until the Scots broke through to secure the 25-20 win.
  • In the third set, back to back kills from Murphy knotted it up at two before the Fighting Scots catapulted to an early 6-3 advantage. However, the Blazers were able to make it even at six before the teams ping-ponged points until Gordon earned a six-point lead thanks to a Kate Howe ace. Not long after, the Fighting Scots brought the hammer down (25-18), shutting out the Blazers in three straight sets.
