Gordon College Men's Soccer hit the road this afternoon as they traveled to Waterville, Maine to face the Colby College Mules for a non-conference game where the Fighting Scots battled back from a two-goal deficit to bring the match to a draw after finding the back of the net in the last two minutes of regulation.
For the Scots,
Adrian Chiang and
Benny Simpson each contributed a goal in the effort, meanwhile,
Cole Levis and
Max Cardone chipped in an assist each.
How It Happened
- The Mules wasted no time as they made sure to get on the board just over a minute (1:11) after the first whistle was blown after taking advantage of a corner kick. The Scots fired from all angles, but were unable to penetrate Colby's defense before the Mules were able to add to their advantage in the 19th minute, bringing the score to 2-0. With just under three minutes left in the first half, Gordon's Chiang cut their deficit in half after finishing off a beautiful cross in front of the net from Levis to head into the second frame down by one (1-2).
- Hungry for a goal, the Fighting Scots pounded the net once again in the second half while holding the Mules scoreless. It wasn't until 1:37 ticks left on the clock when Simpson tied it up at two after sending a header to the top right corner of the net thanks to a feed from Cardone. With 1:23 remaining, Colby attempted to regain their long-lost edge with a late corner kick, however, the Scots shut them down to lock in the 2-2 stalemate.
