Gordon College Volleyball hosted the MIT Engineers on Kanas Court for day one of the Gordon College Invitational where the visitors defeated the Fighting Scots, 3-0.
Annie Murphy stepped up for the Scots with seven kills and senior
Valerie Nilan wasn't far behind with five kills on the night. Additionally,
Kate Howe contributed 13 assists and six digs.
For MIT,
Ella Gragg had nine kills,
Alyssa Unell had five blocks, while
Adrina Tang dished out 30 assists in the win.
How It Happened
- The visitors got on the board early with five straight points before the Scots responded and ultimately closed the gap to make it 7-5. However, MIT stepped in the driver's seat to go on top by 12 before taking the first set, 25-12.
- Murphy started the Scots off strong in the second frame with a towering kill but the Engineers quickly evened it out, eventually flipping the script to take control the rest of the way in a 25-8 win (2-0).
- In the third, both sides battled back and forth for each point and after a kill from Murphy the blue and white came within two points (9-11). The Scots'Â offense remained strong but the visitors began to pull away to eventually secure the sweep with a 25-17 win.
Beyond The Box Score
- The Fighting Scots have a quick turnaround as they play Oglethorpe at 1 p.m. and then Lasell at 5 p.m. tomorrow on Kanas Court.
- Newcomer Wren Worth recorded three digs in her collegiate volleyball debut.
