Gordon College Field Hockey took a break from Conference action today as they hosted the Thomas College Terriers at the Brigham Athletic Complex. After a scoreless first period, the Fighting Scots drew first blood, however, not long after that the Terriers answered back to eventually gain a three goal edge (4-1) before the Scots battled back to a one-goal deficit but it was too late as the Terriers clinched the narrow 4-3 win.
Anna Rathbun,
Caroline Kelley, and
Gina Ouellette spearheaded the Scots' offensive front, each booking one goal in the effort. Meanwhile,
Sophea Zaskoda protected the net with six saves.
How It Happened
- In the first, Thomas attempted to penetrate the Scots' defense with a total of seven shots but Zaskoda denied all five that were on net to head into the second frame at a 0-0 standstill.
- Rathbun got the Fighting Scots on the board at the 5:56 mark in the second, giving her squad the 1-0 edge. However, just over one minute later (7:08) the Terriers tied it up before going ahead 2-1 with 45 ticks left in the first half.
- Thomas carried their momentum over into the next quarter as they were able to lengthen their lead to 4-1 before heading into the final 15.
- The Scots broke open in the last period as Kelley found the back of the net to shrink their deficit to two (2-4). Gordon fought to regain the edge as Ouellette capitalized on a beautiful feed from Rathbun to come within one goal (3-4) with 3:45 remaining in regulation, however, it wasn't enough time as the Terriers took the slim 4-3 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
