Gordon College Field Hockey collected their second win during their two-game road trip in dominating fashion as the Fighting Scots defeated the Bryn Athyn Lions, 10-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
For the Fighting Scots,
Caroline Kelley led the charge with a hat trick and one assist,
Anna Rathbun found the back of the net twice,
Emily Ward added one assist and one goal, while
Avonlea Cummings,
Amelia Veara,Â
Maddie Ahern, and
Gina Ouellette each tacked on one goal in the victory.Â
How It Happened
- After the home team was awarded a penalty corner in the opening minutes, Gordon buckled down and couldn't let up offensively, taking 14 shots and scoring a pair of goals by Kelley and Rathbun to lead 2-0 after the first quarter.Â
- Kelley and Rathbun did it again in the second as Kelley led off the frame with her second goal of the day while Rathbun followed it up with her second tally thanks to a feed from Kelley. With just 11 ticks on the clock, Ahern got in on the fun to scoot one past the back line, making it 5-0 at halftime.
- It was much of the same in the third as Ward found classmate Cummings for the sixth goal before Ouellette and Veara got on the stat sheet to make it 8-0 heading into the final quarter.
- Ward and Kelley closed out the game with the Scots' ninth and 10th goals in the fourth and the defense preserved the shutout to give Gordon the commanding 10-0 win.
