Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Scots' Late Rally Not Enough For Seahawks In Weeknight CCC Action

Gordon College Men's Basketball returned to their home court tonight for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest against the Salve Regina Seahawks where the Fighting Scots fought back from a double-digit deficit before eventually taking the 69-75 loss.

Garrett Sattazahn led the Scots once again with 21 points while grabbing 11 points, while teammate Bryce Smith wasn't far behind him, chipping in 20 points towards Gordon's tally as well as dishing out six assists.

The visitors were guided by Mikey Spenser who booked a game-high 26 points while grabbing nine rebounds, followed by Declan Walmsley who recorded 14 points.

How It Happened
  • Less than four minutes into the game, Salve gained an eight-point edge over the Scots (11-3) but Gordon slowly chipped away to make it a one-point game (16-17)  just under the 10-minute mark (9:42) thanks to a jumper from Treyton Tebbs. However, the Seahawks were able to hold onto their slight advantage, eventually grabbing a double-digit lead with 2:02 on the clock after a Spenser three to bring the score to 36-26 before closing out the half, 39-28.
  • Coming back from the locker room, Gordon's Smith immediately shrink the deficit down to eight after hitting one from downtown (31-39). The squads traded points until Sattazahn sunk three baskets in a row with a three-pointer sandwiched in between to cut the Scots' margin in half (40-44). However, it wasn't long before Salve began to pull away, gaining a 15-point lead (64-49) with 6:50 remaining, but the Fighting Scots refused to go down as a crowd electrifying block by Zachary Bennett with less than two minutes to go charged the Scots as they went on a six-point run to bring the score to 68-70 with 52 ticks on the clock. But the Seahawks bore down  to keep their lead and seal the 75-69 Conference victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Garrett Sattazahn booked his second double-double of the season tonight.
  • Zachary Bennett earned his first block of the season in the second half.
  • The Fighting Scots return to Kanas Court on Saturday, January 28 when they seek revenge on cross-town rivals Endicott College Gulls at 3 p.m.
