Gordon College Men's Basketball hosted Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rivals Endicott College Gulls for an intense match-up this Saturday afternoon where the Fighting Scots sought revenge from their previous loss to the Gulls, this time blowing out their guests, 88-80.
Garrett Sattazahn stayed hot for the Scots, earning just one point shy of 30 in tonight's competition while
Bryce Smith followed him up with 20 points followed by
Justin Yu who contributed 14 in the victorious effort.
The Gulls were led by the CCC's second leading scorer (points per game)
Jalen Echevarria as the senior booked 23 points, followed by
Stephen Fama who added 12 points for his squad.
How It Happened
- Smith got the Scots going right away with one behind the arc to take the first edge of the game, 3-0 before the Gulls came back to knot it up at 8-8 moments before pulling ahead, 16-10. However, the Fighting Scots battled back, making it a one-point game after a Sattazahn three before two buckets from the charity stripe from Smith pushed the Scots ahead, 19-18. The teams fought back and forth for the advantage until Gordon's Jordan Bretton hit one from three-point land with 8:14 on the clock to take their first two basket lead, 27-23. A few minutes later (4:56) Sattazahn stayed hot behind the arc to take a 10-point lead (39-29) before the Scots eventually widened the gap to 11 until a last second half-court chuck from the Gulls found its way in the basket to end the half, 44-36.Â
- Endicott opened up the second immediately cutting their deficit to five after a three-pointer just 11 seconds after the whistle blew. The Gulls chipped away, however, the Fighting Scots held on to their lead until the clock read 9:50 when the visitors tied it up at 59-all. But the Scots refused to relinquish their edge as they tacked on to their points to reclaim their sizable 11-point lead thanks to back to back three's from Yu to bring the score to 79-68 with 4:12Â remaining in regulation, firing up the Scots to seal the eventual 88-80 Conference win.Â
