Coming off of a high from last weekend's electrifying win against cross-town rivals Endicott College, Gordon College Men's Basketball welcomed the Curry College Colonels for a Conference match-up where the Fighting Scots kept the momentum going to grab their second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win in a row after besting their opponents, 74-61.
Bryce Smith guided the Scots tonight with 27 points while chipping in six assists and five rebounds, meanwhile,
Justin Yu and
Caleb Scott each added 10 points to Gordon's tally with Scott grabbing 15 rebounds to book his first collegiate double-double.
For the Colonels,
Lowelle Torres led his squad with 14 points while
Jason Romans recorded 10 points and dished out eight assists in the effort.
How It Happened
- Zachary Bennett started the Fighting Scots off with the first basket of the game before eventually grabbing a six-point lead (15-9) at the 14:52 mark. However, the Colonels chipped away to eventually take the lead after a nine-point run (23-15) with just under 10 minutes to go in the first. Not long after, Smith regained the edge for the blue-and-white with a layup in the paint to bring the score to 26-25. Despite the Colonel's attempt to close the gap, the Scots held on tight to their advantage before ending the initial half, 36-34.
- Scott got his squad rolling just 20 seconds after the break with a two-pointer from under the basket thanks to a feed from Smith, lengthening Gordon's edge to four. From that moment on, the Fighting Scots refused to relinquish their lead, going on a 19-point rally to grab a 20-point lead with just over six minutes remaining on the clock (68-48). Curry continued to put up a fight but the Scots stayed in the driver's seat, sealing the eventual 74-61 Conference win.
