Scots Fall In North Shore Match Up 3-1

The Gordon College Fighting Scots Volleyball team went down the road to compete against the Endicott College Gulls in a Wednesday night Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) battle where the GullsĀ edged the Scots in a tight duel byĀ a score of 3 - 1.Ā

How It Happened
  • In the opening set, both teams went back and forth, with the largest lead being four points.Ā It was 18 - 18 before the Gulls were able to break the back and forth pattern and went ahead to recordĀ the next six points. However, Joey KeltnerĀ came back with a kill, but it was the Gulls that went on to score the final point of the match (19 - 25).Ā
  • Annie Murphy came up big in the second set, putting together a five point run with her back at the serviceĀ line, which included two aces for the junior. The set went into extra points as the blue and white continued to battle, but would not be able to overcome the Gulls and drop the second frame by a score of 27 - 29. Ā
  • Gordon came out hot in the third set, holding the advantage for much of the frame before Endicott took the 18 - 15 edge. A Murphy kill and two Annie Zimmerman kills lifted the Scots back on top (19 - 18). Murphy slammed down match point after a set from Kate Howe to take the third set, 25 - 22.
  • Locked up at 11Ā - 11, the Gulls scored five straight and never looked back, taking the fourth and deciding set, 25 - 20 and overall 3 - 1 win.

Beyond The Box Score
  • Joey Keltner had a season-high of 14 digs to go along with 14 kills to record another double-double on the season.Ā
  • Junior, Annie Murphy, also had a season-high of seven digs in tonight's matchup.Ā
  • The blue and white will continue their stint on theĀ road next as they travel down to West Hartford, Conn. on Thursday, October 12 to face the Hartford Hawks.Ā
