The Gordon College Fighting Scots Men's Basketball team had their season home opener tonight as they welcomed the Anna Maria College (AMC) Amcats from Paxton, Massachusetts to Kanas Court. The Fighting Scots battled to the final whistle but the visitors were able to take the 84-72 win over the blue and white.
For the Scots,
Justin Yu had a team-high 16 points,
Treyton Tebbs added 14, while
Bryce Smith chipped in 12 in the effort.
AMC's
Jopaul Mckrieth led all scorers with 27 points followed by
Jakai Alexandre with 17.
How It Happened
- The Scots and Amcats went point for point with the visitors holding the narrow upper hand to kick off the first. Then, with 7:10 to go in the half, Isaac Jarvis hit a jumper to lock it up at 21-all. Both sides knotted it up three more times before AMC went on top 39-32 at the break.
- AMC came out firing to open up the second, leading by as many as 14, however the blue and white did not back down, climbing back to flip the script 58-57 thanks to a pair of free throws off the hand of Micah Steely (10:59). However, the visitors regrouped to widen the gap down the stretch to secure the 84-72 win.
Beyond The Box Score
- Justin Yu booked a season-high 16 points.
- Rookie Micah Steely brought down a career-high nine rebounds.
- The blue and white are at home before the Thanksgiving Break on Tuesday, November 17 to host Salem State at 7:30 p.m.
