Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Scots Shine On Senior Day With 78-72 W Against Top Ranked Golden Bears

Gordon College Men's Basketball celebrated their four seniors Zachary Bennett, Xahn FraterZach Quanico, and Garrett Sattazahn in their final regular season home contest as they hosted the Golden Bears of Western New England (WNE) this afternoon on Kanas Court where the Fighting Scots earned their sixth Conference win of the season, 78-72.

Veterans Garrett Sattazahn and Zach Quanico guided the Scots to victory tonight with 23 points each as well as six rebounds a piece, followed by Isaac Jarvis who added 10 points in the effort.

For the Golden Bears, Tim Restall led his squad with 23 points as well as grabbing 22 rebounds, while Cody Palazzesi and Brian Geitner contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively.

How It Happened
  • The Scots got off to a hot start as Quanico hit one from downtown to take the initial lead before stealing the ball to land a fast break in the paint forcing a WNE timeout. However, the Golden Bears eventually knotted it up at seven before pulling ahead at the 14:36 mark (13-7) before Quanico stayed hot from behind the arc to put the Fighting Scots ahead, 20-19, with 8:39 on the clock. From that moment on, Gordon held tight to the lead until the final 1:24 when WNE tied the score at 30-all before both squads went back and forth before the Golden Bears hit a three in the last 13 ticks to end the first half with a one-point edge (36-35).
  • The Golden Bears immediately tacked onto their lead after the break, however, a Frater three brought the score at an even 40, catalyzing the Scots on an 11-point run including back to back threes from Quanico and Sattazahn (48-40). The Fighting Scots refused to relinquish their advantage, eventually taking as much as a 15-point lead with 5:03 remaining (72-57) topped off by another basket from downtown off the stealthy hands of Quanico. In the remaining minutes, the Golden Bears chipped away to close the gap, but the Scots were able to comfortably hang on to their lead to secure the 78-72 win to cap off their 2022-23 regular season.
