How It Happened
- The Scots came out firing as J. Flemmi started off the game pounding the net but was unable to penetrate before the Lyons got on the board with 10:46 on the clock. Despite, three more shots from the Fighting Scots, Wheaton was able to double their tally to two, less than five minutes after their first goal to bring the score to 2-0 before taking advantage of a man-up situation to lengthen their gap to three. However, it wasn't long before Gordon cut the deficit to two as J. Flemmi's constant hammering of the net paid off as the junior was able to score the Scots' first goal of the season with 3:19 remaining before ending the quarter, 1-3.Â
- Wheaton wasted no time getting their goal back as the Lyons found the back of the net just 10 seconds after the whistle blew (4-1), catalyzing a shooting spree as Wheaton went on to score three more before J. Flemmi added a second goal to his stat sheet tonight with just over a minute left on the clock, forcing a Lyons timeout. After reconvening, Wheaton was able to tack on another goal to their score to head into the second half, 8-2.Â
- Gordon's J. Flemmi got the first shot off in the opening seconds of the third but the Lyons were the first squad to add to their tally with back to back goals within a minute of each other. The Fighting Scots continued to be aggressive offensively before finally bringing their goals to three as sophomore Davey net his first goal of the season at the 10:23 mark (3-10). Less than three minutes later, rookie Scot Wright earned his first collegiate goal thanks to a feed from Ryan Arthur to shrink the gap to six. However, the Lyons retaliated with a pair of goals before Davey doubled his goals with 2:13 remaining to head into the final frame, 5-12.
- In the last 15, Wheaton was able hold their lead, scoring five goals to the Scots' two, locking in the 17-7 win.
