Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Warriors Spoil Scots' Home-Opener

Gordon College Men's Lacrosse invited the Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) Warriors to the Brigham Athletic Complex tonight for their home-opener where the Fighting Scots were outscored by their guests, 11-7.

Marco Fernandez led the Scots with a hat-trick, meanwhile, rookie Ryan Arthur added a pair of goals followed by Ryan Stephen Long and Jackson Wright who both chipped in a goal in the effort.

For the visitors, Brycen Kennedy and Tim Lichack contributed a trio of goals while Quinn O'Connor added two goals in the win.

How It Happened
  • The Warriors wasted no time getting on the board as they found the back of the net just over a minute after the first whistle (13:58) before doubling their goals to two at the 11:30 mark. However, not long after the Scots got going, pounding the net with multiple back to back shots before Fernandez booked his first goal of the young season to make it a one-goal game.
  • Just 1:28 into the second quarter, the Fighting Scots took advantage of a man-up position as John Flemmi found Ryan Stephen Long in front of the net to knot it up at two-all before Gordon's Arthur gave the Scots their first advantage of the season with a goal at the 7:18 mark thanks to a feed from William McCormick (3-2). Unsatisfied by their one-goal edge, the Scots lengthened their lead to two with two minutes on the clock after a stealthy goal from Wright brought the score to 4-2 but the Warriors soon retaliated with a goal of their own to make it 3-4 heading into the break.
  • ECSU continued their momentum over into the second half as they quickly tied it up at four with 9:38 on the clock before eventually taking the lead after a four goal rally in the third to enter the final frame, 7-4.
  • In the last 15, the Warriors tacked on another after 1:07 minutes however, the Fighting Scots soon retaliated with a pair of back to back goals from Fernandez to bring the score to 6-8 with 10:28 left in regulation. But the visitors were able to pull away in the remaining minutes to seal the eventual 11-7 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Freshmen Ryan Stephen Long and Ryan Arthur earned their first collegiate goals as Scots tonight.
  • The Fighting Scots have a quick turn around as they hit the road again on Wednesday, March 1 to face the Salem State Vikings in Salem, Massachusetts at 6 p.m.
