Scots Handle Gators For First Win Of The Season

Gordon College Men's Lacrosse played the Russell Sage Gators in Virginia Beach this afternoon as part of their spring break training trip. Both sides traded goals in the beginning of the game, but the Fighting Scots continued to build and secured the 20-12 win for their first win of the year.

Jackson Wright had a career-game with four goals and three assists, Ryan Stephen Long also was dominant with three goals and two assists, while brothers John Flemmi and Nicolas Flemmi were identical with three goals and two helpers. Keeper Colin Liscomb booked 10 saves and four ground balls and William McCormick chipped in 10 ground balls in the win.

For Russell Sage, Kollin Matthews and Bailey Martin each had three goals, while Shea Obado and Anthony Abreu added two goals each.

How It Happened
  • Less thank 60 seconds after the opening face-off, Wright put the Fighting Scots on the board, 1-0. Russell Sage came right back with a tally of their own which led to back and fourth first quarter action where the Gators held the narrow 6-5 edge after the first.
  • Kicking off the second frame with a bang, Gordon's Ryan Arthur and Marco Fernandez each found the back of the net early thanks to feeds from Wright to put the Scots back on top, 7-6. However, the Gators once again regained the upper hand (9-7) with just under eight minutes to go in the half. Gordon netted goals from Noah Theis and once again from Wright to end the half with the 10-9 advantage.
  • Right out of the break, Gordon continued to roll, scoring two straight goals before the Gators recorded her lone goal of the third at the 6:02 mark. From there, the blue and white tacked on three more goals to widen the gap to 15-10 heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
  • Gordon remained in control in the fourth, scoring five goals for the fourth straight quarter as the blue and white earned the 20-12 victory.

Beyond the Box Score
  • Aidan Walsh scooped up a career-high 14 ground balls.
  • Jackson Wright recorded his first multi-goal (four) game of his young Fighting Scot career.
